Biography

Ángel Arenas

While working on a degree in the Humanities, Angel Arenas obtained the Special Award for the Best Academic Results. Recently, he completed a degree in Social Anthropology in the Complutense University of Madrid.

He currently serves as Director of International Relations in the UNESCO Centre of Andalusia. He is also member of the Executive Board of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations.

He has finished his Doctoral Courses at the International University of Turku (Finland) in 2001 and then went to the National University of Entre Ríos (Argentina) where he worked as a researcher in Literature and Philosophy departments.

In his investigations, Arenas studied the implications of the poetry on the cultural development of societies and in particular, in the area of pedagogy. He has presented his findings to several Universities in Europe and North and South America. As a result of these studies and his creative pursuits, he has visited more than 50 countries.

He is a board member of the Spanish Association of Creativity and a member of the Spanish Reading and Writing Association. Since 2007, he has been the Managing Director of Poessible World, a socio-artistic project which encourages creativity around the world.

He has received numerous prizes for his poetry and prose. His publications are Sobre Arenas (Argentina, 2002), Poeta quien lo lea -Anyone who reads this is a poet- (2003 and 2008) and Poemas para repensar el mundo -Poems for rethinking the world- and Poemas para pensar la interculturalidad -Poems to stimulate Multiculturalism- edited in Multimedia format - (2004 and 2007) and Poéticamente incorrecto -Poetically incorrect- (2007), presented at the National Library of Mexico.

His work has also been gathered in several anthologies. Some of them are Inmaduros, a selection of young poets from Castile-La Mancha, Homenaje al Ultra, Homenaje a la Generación del ' 27 (Cultural Club of Seville), and Narrative in miscellaneous, edited for the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

He has received scholarships for courses of cinematographic script and video creation, at the National Centre for the Arts of Mexico and in the House of Poetry in Cuba.

Currently, he is working on several cultural and artistic projects in different cities with the support of institutions like Cervantes Institute and UNESCO.

One of these projects is The World, a Giant Poem which has been presented in 16 cities around the world with the successful participation of tens of thousands of people.
