Projects
The world, a giant poem

Description

This project was launched in the Constitution Square in Mexico City in 2007. The initiative consists in the collective and simultaneous construction of a poem of more than one hundred meters long. The Giants Poems are written in the emblematic streets and squares of cities in the world. This is thanks to the intervention of hundreds of people who write the verses after others in the long piece of paper fixed to the ground.

It is an artistic and social performance which uses expressive and communicative skills of poetry, conceived poetry as an effective tool to promote values such as dialogue, reflection and understanding.

Having developed more than 40 cities around the world, the project is a practical example of intercultural dialogue in a global scale. A legitimate ambition to invite hundreds of cities to join this network in which common human emotions are the protagonists to purchase a feeling of wholeness, to incorporate the sense of humanity - citizens of the world – to face the challenges we are obliged to face together.

Hundreds of experiences, feelings, stories, particular anecdotes that integrate this human project. These experiences belong to the memory of the tens of thousands of participants. But we can also quantitatively illustrate with figures what has been the history of the project.

41 Giant Poems in 39 cities of 18 countries.

5170 meters of paper have been written thanks to the participation of some 87500 participants, including writing and reading.

4200 verses approximately have been written and digitized.

41 are the languages used in the composition of poems.

150 institutions, approximately have collaborated or supported the project and 350 media, such as estimate, have echoed the events.
